Annual Professional Development Seminar a Success!

BCW's 29th Annual Professional Development Seminar held on Friday, September 15th at Raymond Walter's College in Cincinnati, OH was a tremendous success. Some 50 women and 1 male registrant, who represented aspiring and achieving persons in diverse career fields, in the public and private sector, plus BCW Members and officers, scholarship recipients and volunteers were in attendance and gave high praise for the seminar in their evaluations.

All of the communication, planning and marketing of this event were accomplished on-line to manage costs and were effective thanks to the co-operation of all of the subscribers to our BCW newsletter, and those who visited and shared the information on our site.

BCW Vice President, Ann Keeling noted, "As a non-profit organization, BCW has learned over the years how to make a way out of no way. This seminar was no exception. The BCW drumbeat reached far more women than were in attendance and we were chastised for not getting the word out sooner!" BCW will be sure to communicate our next event on-line much more in advance in the future, due to this feedback. However, this event was a labor of love as we implemented the seminar, without the key leadership of two BCW officers who have been gravely ill.

Women in attendance were particularly appreciative to be able to hear the amazing stories and rise to power of the Executive Panelists - black women who have achieved against the odds. The candid question and answer session yielded many important, career strategies of successful black women, revealed confidentially to their career-concerned sisters at the seminar. (See BCW Seminar session info and bios.) The important personal branding session was informative and fun, and provided participants with a chance to get a professional headshot while at the seminar. "The final session, was particularly relevant to young professionals who may need to move on to move up," stated one of the participants in her evaluation.

BCW was fortunate to be able to implement this seminar with a zero-based budget, thanks to our Speakers who so generously contributed their time and professional insights and the Dean of Raymond Walters College, Dr. Dolores Straker, who hosted the seminar.

We extend our genuine thanks to our outstanding speakers, moderators, volunteers, Dean Straker and her staff for their contributions.
